Imagine science has gone to the extent that man lives on the Moon, Mars or on some other planets. It would be a genuine achievement and we all would feel wonderful. Now the question is – would it be possible at all? and even if possible for how long man would be able to survive. I have raised the question, so let me try to answer. Firstly, many countries have been trying to get informations about the planets of the Universe. Millions of dollars are being spent to send artificial satellites, for the installation of the space stations and for gathering knowledge on whether the atmosphere over there is conducive for living. Here lies the basic question. Did we get expected results so far from the costliest expeditions? If this amount was spent by those countries for keeping the Earth clean and beautiful, the world would be really the pure, pollution-free and clean place to dwell upon.
Let us imagine a state of being when the world is no longer liveable. Man will then be compelled to shift to other planets. A human colony will be established there. And man will form another world eventually. Now, what next…? What will happen can be described as – history repeats itself. The same repercussion of civilisation – with good and bad will once again be reflected even in that new world. The good impact will be to take the wealth of that world for granted, as we have done in this world. And the bad impact is to pollute the environment and plunder natural, mineral and gaseous resources recklessly as we have done in this world. I am sure that nowhere on other planets of the Universe we will be provided with even the slightest of the wealth offered by our Mother Earth here. The huge wealth of our Mother Earth is being demolished by us, in the process of enjoying them to satisfy our greed and desire, we have been damaging the Earth ceaselessly. A recent study on the ‘World Wildlife Fund’ has revealed the information that two-thirds of wild animals i.e sixty-eight percent of twenty thousand species are being destroyed by us in the last 50 years due to our enormous greed and longing for pleasure.
It is also reported that man has broken his previous record of destroying nature and the atmosphere in recent times. And there is no clue that this tendency will come down in near future. We have not yet realised that we are hampering our own safety and security by doing so. Our own existence is now at stake. A report says that 19 million miles of land have been eroded since 2000 until today which is 8 times of Great Britain. 10 million wild animals are on the verge of being extinct. About 1.3 billion tons of food grains have been destroyed resulting in the loss of the economy worth 10,000 billion of dollars. ‘International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Survey’ report says that out of one million species of animals and plants, 32000 species have been facing the danger of being extinct.
With this sort of shameful attitude, we still dream of making a new dwelling on other planets. If it happens, it will not take much time to destroy the meagre amount of wealth that may be available there. Then the expedition for a newer dwelling … and once again history will repeat itself and so on and on. The attitude has become inherent, the habit has become the second nature. This will remain the same on the planets after planets. The above-mentioned habit is obviously a bad habit. Mankind has always been ungrateful. Every moment we are exploiting our Mother Earth who has helped our lives to go forward. Days in and out we are destroying nature, killing animals, burning forests and executing self-destructive programs at the end. It is not possible for the same mankind to feel closely attached with any planet whatsoever. If we can love our Mother Earth, if we can take care of her, if we can keep it in mind that she goes on giving us her wealth more and more inspite of being tortured by us, then we can stay on this Earth happily and there will be no need to search for other planets in the Universe. ‘TPWP’ can be established only when sensibility and consciousness prevail in our minds. The sense of duty and responsibility towards our Mother Earth can make her beautiful and clean. When a country will give up show off, will stop trying to dominate others, will take the oath of working unitedly to conserve nature and to care for Mother Earth then in that united world, there will be another world war and this time citizens of the Earth will participate in that war. There will be only one side in that war. Human beings will unitedly fight for a noble cause which is to ensure the existence of entire mankind. There will be shouts and cries in that movement as – ‘Due to our lack of concern we have polluted tremendously, we have destroyed heartlessly, we have hampered beauty and equilibrium of nature but enough is enough, we now repent for our misdeeds, we will rectify and the Earth will remain our first and last and of course the best resort forever’.
